12 wonderful websites for exceedingly odd content

Websites

Websites are great! Here is a list of some that I’ve haunted ranging from completely pointless to personal favorites.

Zompist

This website doesn’t seem like it’s been updated for a while, but this specific section of it is about creating languages. It goes over sounds, writing systems, grammar, and a bunch of other things that I wouldn’t have even considered for creating fictional languages.

Doctor Fiction

This blog is (supposedly) run by an actual medical doctor, and people can send in hypothetical questions about what would happen if you microwaved a head or something like that. It’s a very good writing resource or curious weirdo resource. I benefit from both.

Stuffed Animal Hospital

This is a wholesome blog. The owner runs a business where people send in damaged (or extremely well-loved) stuffed animals and they fix them up, showing pictures of the process and the end result. It’s exactly what you need to see on a bad day.

Fake Science

Science is great and all, but another great thing is a website with a bunch of totally nonsensical false science facts.

Letters of Note

If you like reading things meant for other people, or just being snoopy in general, this blog is for you. It’s full of letters that were deemed to be “deserving of a wider audience”.

Executed Today

Do you ever wake up in the morning and think, “Gee, I wonder who’s been executed on this date in history?” Well wonder no more. This website’s got an answer.

Wayback Machine

The Wayback Machine is a giant archive of who-knows-how-many websites. You can type in any URL and it’ll give you snapshot options based on the date so you can look back on what a website used to look like.

Akinator

If I let myself, I could play on this website all day. You can think of a character from any movie, TV show, book or graphic novel, and it tries to guess who it is.

Nooooooooooooooo

This is probably the weirdest of all the websites on this list. It’s literally just a big button that you press, and when you do, Darth Vader yells. I guess it’s a nice stress relief?

Hacker Typer

I’m pretty sure you can’t use this on a mobile device, but it’s worthwhile to go to a laptop. It’s basically a fake hacker screen like what you would see in a movie, and it’s awesome.

Coolors

This website isn’t really odd, but it came in handy when I was picking blog colors. It randomly generates color schemes and you can keep the colors that you like or adjust them or move them around as you see fit.

Tip of my Tongue

This one also isn’t weird, but I figured I’d stick it on the list because it’s neat. (And it’s saved me from insanity several times.) Through a series of search boxes, you can filter to find a specific word that you’re thinking of but can’t quite grasp.

Have you heard of any of these? Do you have any favorite weird websites?
