a deep analysis of who’s going to die in Avengers: Infinity War (pt. 2)
Let’s begin where we left off.
Or, scratch that. Let’s do a recap.
For anyone who didn’t read last week’s post, here are the main points that I covered:
• Either Cap or Tony’s gonna die, and there’s really nothing stopping the Marvel people from killing them both.
• Pepper also might not make it? And Nick Fury could possibly die in Avengers 4.
• Bucky is 100% (ish) safe, and Loki is 100% (ish) not safe at all.
Now! Back to where we left off, starting with the newer Avengers (and Not-Yet-Avengers), and ending with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
• Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch)
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Wanda isn’t the newest Avenger, but she still hasn’t been around as long as some of the others. With that in mind (along with the fact that Pietro, her brother, already died), I don’t think she’s going to die.
• The Vision
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Seeing as Thanos wants to take part of his head off, I’m not sure how Vision will survive even to Avengers 4. But it’s possible that he can live without the Mind Stone, and that removing it will just cost him his powers. He’s still kind of new as a character, and he has a thing going with Scarlet Witch, so maybe that’s enough to keep him alive.
• Scott Lang (Ant-Man)
Confirmed for Avengers 4
From right now, it looks like Ant-Man and The Wasp takes place directly after Civil War and before Infinity War, which is interesting. It makes me question how large Scott’s role in IW could be because he already hasn’t been in promotions, and surely if he has a big role it would give away spoilers for the next Marvel movie to come out. So I would assume he isn’t going to die.
• Hope van Dyne (The Wasp)
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Hope isn’t supposed to be in Infinity War and she’s only supposed to be in Avengers 4 for a short period of time. But she’s just now taking on the mantle of The Wasp, so she’s probably not going to die.
• Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange)
~Confirmed for Avengers 4
As of yet, Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t been confirmed for Avengers 4, but his stunt double is listed, which is basically confirmation. Benedict is one of the few people who has been allowed to read the whole script for Avengers: Infinity War. Apparently, he needed to understand the scope of his role, which might support the time travel theory that’s been going around. What’s weird is that he’s been acting like Strange might die in recent interviews, but maybe that’s just a ruse?
• Wong
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Wong seems likely to make it through the next patch of movies, especially if Doctor Strange dies. Then he’ll probably take on the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme. Or maybe they’ll both die and the Doctor Strange franchise will just end. But I doubt that will happen.
• Peter Parker (Spider-Man)
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Peter is about as safe as he possibly can be. Not only does he have two more films in his contract after Avengers 4, but also he’s a small child and it would be a crime to hurt him. Spider-Man is Marvel’s most popular superhero, so if they kill him in one of the next two Avengers movies they’ll have to bring him back to life. I don’t think anyone can take another reboot.
• King T’Challa (Black Panther)
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Chadwick Boseman has another movie in his contract after Avengers 4 (probably the sequel to Black Panther) and if they continue doing movie trilogies then Black Panther would most likely get one. After Avengers 4, Spider-Man and Black Panther will be leading players, so T’Challa shouldn’t be dying.
• Shuri
Confirmed for Avengers 4
I’m just gonna say it right now. If Shuri dies (which would be an utterly absurd thing to happen), then I am going to flip out like Jesus in the temple. There is no version of reality where this would be an okay thing to happen.
• Okoye (General of the Dora Milaje)
~Probably confirmed for Avengers 4
Danai Gurira hasn’t been confirmed for Avengers 4 yet, but her driver has been listed for the movie. She’s one of the newest characters, and Wakanda will be a focal point in the coming phases, so Okoye will likely survive these movies.
• M’Baku
M’Baku’s going to be in Avengers: Infinity War, and after that, there’s no news of him. I would guess that he isn’t going to die though.
• Nakia
So far there’s been no news about Nakia being in either Avengers films. If she doesn’t make an appearance in Avengers 4, I’m sure she’ll be back in Black Panther 2. Either way, if she’s not there, she can’t die.
• Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, and Mantis
All confirmed for Avengers 4
All of the Guardians should be fine because they’ve been confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, what happens to them after Vol. 3 is unclear because it will be the last Guardians movie focusing on that lineup. That could mean that some of them will leave and others will stay, or that the focus will shift entirely to Stakar’s Ravagers group (the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics.)
• Nebula
Confirmed for Avengers 4
Nebula might actually die in one of the next Avengers films. She played a big role in the IW comics, and she’s Thanos’s adopted daughter, so maybe she’ll finish her character arc and take Thanos down with her? It’s worth noting though that James Gunn really loves Nebula and has plans for her, but I don’t know if it’s his choice if she lives or dies.
• Kraglin
As far as I can tell, Kraglin isn’t going to be in either Avengers movies, but he should be back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. Hopefully by then he’s figured out how to use Yondu’s arrow.
Now, for some more statements:
Someone, out there—so sad… Someone’s dying in the first fifteen minutes of that film. All I’m gonna say! —Sebastian Stan
When we talk about resolution or a character’s story ending, are we necessarily talking about death?
People always will jump to that. That’s not necessarily what we’re talking about. I talk a lot, because I’m a big nerd, about Star Trek: The Next Generation, “All Good Things.” That to me is one of the best series finales ever. That wasn’t about death. Picard went and played poker with the crew, something he should have done a long time ago, right?
So basically, bottom line, someone has to die in this movie or the next Avengers movie. Either that or Marvel Studios has been trolling us majorly. But just because some of the characters won’t be coming back doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be dying. Maybe they’ll just retire. Or be stuck in the future or the past or some alternate universe. Something nice and Doctor Who-y like that.

Comments on Peter Parker and Shuri…just yes, fix it, Jesus! Make it so!
