fictional characters who need to stop being dead
Easter is this Sunday, people. And I think that it’s important to remember that we’re not only celebrating the existence of Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, but also the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
And with coming back from the dead fresh on our minds, I would like to say that I am personally offended that a butt-load of my favorite characters have died and seem to have no intention of coming back.
*Warning*
This post contains a fair amount of screaming, as well as possible spoilers for these things:
• The Hunger Games • Harry Potter • A Series of Unfortunate Events • The Raven Cycle Series • The Maze Runner • The Marvel Cinematic Universe • Stranger Things • Every Disney Movie Ever • DC Comics
This is going to be so much fun.
• Finnick from the Hunger Games
Out of all the deaths in this series, Finnick’s death hurt me the most. He had gone through a whole lotta crap and he had just gotten married AND THEN HE DIED IN ONE PARAGRAPH BY BEING TORN TO SHREDS. Just like my heart.
• Prim from the Hunger Games
I didn’t get as broken up about Prim’s death as with Finnick’s, but it was definitely sad. Especially because Katniss was trying to protect her sister for the whole series and just failed completely right at the end.
• Hedwig from Harry Potter
If killing off the best characters is bad, the only thing that’s worse is killing off pets. And Hedwig was trying to protect Harry when she died, which makes it so much worse.
• Professor Montgomery from A Series of Unfortunate Events
After the Baudelaire children lost their parents and lived with Count Olaf, they went to Prof. Montgomery, a distant relative of theirs. Out of all the guardians they lived with, he was the best, and I’m still mad that he died. Also, I’m mad that Lemony Snicket casually mentioned his death before it even happened. Like woah dude, spoiler alert.
• Newt from Maze Runner
At this point, most of the other characters in this series were annoying me, but Newt was and always will be a perfect angel. Also, the Maze Runner movies have been largely inaccurate, yet they did this whole scene like word for word in the trailer. IF YOU ARE GOING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, CHANGE THIS.
• Quicksilver
Almost every Marvel character that has “died” has actually survived. And then there’s Quicksilver, who couldn’t make it through one whole movie. According to Joss Whedon, that was because Age of Ultron was a “war movie,” so a price needed to be paid. But to defeat Thanos, peeps are gonna need every asset they got, so I’m still holding on to the theory that he’ll be back.
• Every parent in every single Disney movie ever
Oops my fingers slipped.
• Bob Newby from Stranger Things
Thankfully, Pinterest spoiled this for me so I already knew he was going to die before I became too attached. Unthankfully, that didn’t work and I totally became attached. Regardless, the Demodogs killing Bob really sucked, and they started eating him even though they had left everyone else they killed alone. Come on.
• EVERY CHARACTER WHO’S GOING TO DIE IN INFINITY WAR
Don’t even get me started on this crap. No death in this movie is acceptable to me except for that big stupid idiot Thanos.
• Jason Todd from the Batman comics
Okay, semi-quick history lesson. Jason Todd was Batman’s second Robin after Dick Grayson became Nightwing. Because everyone loved Grayson so much, Todd was a smashing failure. Eventually, DC decided to deal with the issue by holding a vote where you could call a phone line and say whether or not you thought he should die. He died by a margin of 72 votes—if you count the several hundred negative votes that were called in by the same person. A person who must’ve REALLY wanted him to be dead. Did Jason Todd come back to life later? Yes. Am I still indignant? You bet.
Honorable Mention: Richard Gansey III from the Raven Cycle
Technically he died twice in the series, but he managed to come back to life both times. And the first book was even like “yo, this dude’s gonna die.” AND HE WAS DEATHLY ALLERGIC TO BEE STINGS AND HE RAN AROUND IN SHORTS IN THE WOODS HALF THE TIME WITHOUT HIS EPIPEN. Why can’t all characters be as immune to death as he was?
Yo momma
You know I couldn’t possibly talk about who better not die in Infinity War because I have entirely too many words about that! As for Disney,YES!! Wait, what about Mulan? And The Incredibles! Best Disney movie ever! Too bad they didn’t play that during Irma…
Grace
I’m not sure if even The Incredibles could be justified for playing five times in a 24-hour span.
Aubrey (a very upset grey’s anatomy fan)
MCDREAMY AND GEORGE FROM GREY’S ANATOMY!!
Grace
I only have 12% of a clue of who you’re talking about (McDreamy was the dude from Enchanted, right?), but I’m sorry for your loss 😢
Yo momma
The episode when George died I actually gasped! What?! Nooooo!
Molly
Have you read the “Divergent” series?
Grace
YES! So many people died in that series. And I accidently found out about the main death in the last book before I read it. I was NOT happy
Matthew
Commander Root from Artemis Fowl
Grace
Ok, yes. I actually forgot that he died, because it didn’t make any sense.
Matthew
Although most of Holly’s urgency to protect Artemis came from the death. And it gave her more motivation to take down Opal.
