why rainy days make the best reading days

Rainy Days

In my humble opinion, which is 100% right all the time, rainy days make the best any day. There’s something magical about them that can dial your senses to eleven, or release all the tightness around your neck at the sound of the first downpour, or possess you to build a blanket fort and then do nothing but watch movies in it all day long. Even if you have school work.

Another thing that’s wonderful about rain (which you’ve probably already guessed if you’ve read the title) is the itch that you get to snuggle up with a good book.

Not only does rain put you in the mood to read, it also gives you an excuse to do it without interruption.

You can cancel lots of plans simply by saying the weather’s bad, without anyone guessing that you’re secretly rejoicing on the inside. (This is certainly not an introvert typing. Pfft.) And even if you didn’t have any plans, you can still take advantage of a perfectly good opportunity to read with a lowered chance of being bothered by human people.

Rainy days also (for me at least) (I’M SURE EVERYONE ELSE AGREES) give you an increased feeling of coziness.

It’s as if a natural instinct kicks in that makes you seek out heat and furry blankets and outrageous amounts of pillows and warm drinks like hot chocolate and fresh pastries and stacks of books and Harry Potter marathons that play almost constantly on Freeform and—well, you get the point. Rain =  a longing for coziness which is filled quite spectacularly by books. And hot chocolate.

Another thing?

You may feel better about bawling over a character’s death or the end of a book if the sky is crying too. Sometimes (specifically if you’re out-of-doors) you can even blame the rain for the reason why your face is wet. But seriously, I appreciate it when the earth seems to mourn for the same things I’m mourning for.

And, as a last thought, rainy days validate why we buy purses that are way bigger than we need them to be. Because books + water = every form of sadness.

Tell me what you’re thinking! How do you feel about rainy days? Do they increase your reading superpowers??
